Range day.
« on: June 08, 2019, 01:43:40 PM »
I installed my new stainless Track of the Wolf nipples in the original cylinder for the Colt Navy the other day so I was keen to try them out. So I headed off to the range today with the Colt Navy and my Uberti Remington.

I found some plastic vials with caps on them, so last night I determined that they hold TEN grains by WEIGHT of Spanish Santa Barbara BP and SEVEN grains of Triple Seven. Drag them through the powder in an open dry container level scoop and that's what they give. I didn't bother shooting any T7 today just BP.

Ten grains of BP a scoop of semolina filler with a Lee dipper and a .375" Hornady round ball, Remington No11 caps for the 1st target. All shot two handed grip free standing at ten metres.

Second target only difference was RWS 1075 plus caps.............................Six o'clock hold and boom. Two nice groups there even if I say so myself  (7&

Made in 1852, I just can't believe how good this old revolver shoots.

Very much enjoy the story about a vintage Colt 51. Very cool and congrats on possessing such a accurate Colt. How did cleanup go? Is the barrel pitted badly?

The Col. Sure new his business did he not

Excellent shooting! I think it is so awesome that you shoot that old Colt. Instead of it languishing in a dark safe somewhere, it's doing what it was intended to do. And it does it very well.

Thank you all gentlemen.

Yes she shoots like a dream. The Navy model is a perfect fit in my hand and points naturally. Yes Col Colt sure did know his business, the man was a genius and an excellent engineer. I thought I would try the light load of TEN grains of BP and it sure does the job without beating her up.

I am thinking though for future sessions I'm going to use my new Uberti cylinder and keep the original to one side.

The bore isn't "mint" by any means it has pitting but it certainly has no detrimental effect on accuracy.

Cleanup was really easy. I forgot to mention I recently made up some bullet lube from Beeswax and Olive oil 40/60. Used it for the 1st time yesterday it worked a treat. After shooting I wiped both guns down with a cloth before taking them home. Nothing more needed.

Sounds like heaven, shootin an ol sweetie from yesteryear. Can not imagine the heady feeling of shooting such a dandy (and a favorite of mine) revolver.

Thanks for sharing her with us AND your range session.

Thanks, I ought to clarify the "wipe down" thing. At the range it was literally that and a quick spray of Ballistol. Now when I got home,THAT'S the full cleaning regimen. In fact I stripped the trigger mechanism out of the Uberti which I have never done with it before, normally it goes in the dishwasher minus the grips and the trigger guard. Both of them are now spotlessly clean.........................Until next time that is  L@.
