I decided to stretch out a little from standard holsters over the past couple of weeks. Trying my hand at making a skeleton shoulder rig. These were somewhat popular from the later 1880's through the early 1900's.
It took me the longest time to find the spring, but I was able to locate a vendor finally.....not cheap at $35, but sources are extremely limited. Covering it in leather was a bit of a learning experience and I found that I hate working with curved needles for sewing. I must have downloaded close to 100 pics of these things and I think I have a fairy good pattern laid out. Leather for the body is cut out, now I need to cut the for the "around the shoulder" part.
There's a lot of figurin' and head scratchin' to figure out how to get it all together, but I think I have a solid plan. If it works out right, it should be able to hold either a 4.75" or 5.5" SAA. I'm not sure I'd ever want to do another one......but it has been an experience. I still need to clean and burnish the edges of the slit for the spring to go through and get the lower shoulder mount glued in before the 2 pieces are glued and stitched.
Well....back to head scratchin' and figurin'!
