Zoom Chat
« on: December 12, 2022, 04:06:23 PM »
I have an idea. Please tell me your thoughts.

We all pretty well know each other here. But doesn't anyone think it would be nice to actually talk to each other?

I was thinking it would be pretty cool if once or twice a month, we all meet up on a Zoom call or something similar. We can chat, show each other stuff and just generally have a nice time socializing a bit. What do you think?

Zoom is free and easy to install. Or if there's a better platform, I'm all for it.

Doing this still keeps those who guard their privacy happy too, as you don't have to use a phone number or anything. And people can't contact you unless you want them to. And if you're curious but don't want to participate, you can lurk in the background and just watch and listen.

Give me your thoughts. No wrong answers here and I won't be butthurt if you tell me to jump off a cliff.

This sounds like a good idea. However, I don't use Zoom for security reasons. I found this online:

"The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) issued a warrant against Zoom’s Chinese employee Xinjiang Jin, also known as “Julien Jin,” for leaking Zoom’s users’ and meetings information to the Chinese government. Jin faced the accusation that he was:

Supplying information such as Internet Protocol addresses, names, and email addresses – of users located outside China.
Monitoring Zoom’s meetings and terminating any meetings that were deemed illegal or otherwise unacceptable according to the Chinese government’s rules.
Suspending some users’ accounts who were (according to Jin) engaged in illegal activities without any proof."

Of course, I don't trust online anything so take it for what it's worth.

I don't have a webcam or mic. I could probably use my phone but I'm a dummy when it comes to that thing.

Thanks for the feedback fellas. We can use any platform you'd like to use. I just said Zoom because it seems to be the most popular.

I'm sure you can use your phone Hawg. I've had to do it for doctor's visits. If enough guys think it's a good idea, we'll figure something out. I know a few people that do it via YouTube too.

I've used Zoom,  Skype,  Facetime,  Teams.    I would not be interested in a live chat format for this forum.   Aside from seeing my grandkids I will avoid Zoom meetings for the rest of my life.

I'm in.

I live in Pacific, and work 07:00-17:00 Tues- Saturday.

Not that my schedule is what the forum hangs it's hat on, but that's one faction of tiome zone and schedule for consiuderation of the time frame.

I'm thinking a lazy Sunday coffee and BP chat on the third Sunday or whatever would work for most of us, working or retired.

Just my $.02 from Idaho

I was thinking this too Clydesdale. Once a month or so.

Something else to ponder. Do you think doing something like this would take away from the forum? Or would it enhance the experience? Your thoughts?

I don't see how it wold take away from the forum. It's not the same thing. It might help by making people more familiar with each other. But then, it might not. I've called it wrong before.
