Robber's Roost
« on: October 06, 2014, 03:58:17 PM »
Robber's Roost is a cave up on a cliff in the Verde Valley, within sight of Sedona. It is off a fairly well maintained gravel road, but once you reach the turn-off to the trail head, you need ground clearance and 4x4 doesn't hurt.

Scenery along the main road in...

This is the good main road...

The red rock in the lower part of the Photo is where we're headed.

The red rocks...

A Juvie Red-tail (probably) that landed in a bush along the trail...

The trail to the parking area. That's a Wrangler ahead of us.

At the trail head, looking across the canyon. If you look in the lower corner, you can see the trail to Robber's Roost.

From the top of the ridge...

This is the final bit of trail to Robber's Roost. Not for the faint of heart...

Looking back...

The last bit, with one of the darkened footprints

As an interesting note, if you misstep here, it's about a 600 foot fall.

EM, thanks for sharing those pics of your trip. That's a part of the country that we never had a chance to visit on our travels.

Neat stuff!  Love the history in the SW, so much went on that we'll likely only know a fraction. Thanks for sharing!
