how to finish?
« on: June 01, 2015, 07:28:48 AM »
I was going through some boxes of (for lack of a better word) gun crap. I found an old cap gun I had bought as a kit back in the early 80's. If I remember correctly it was a CVA "Reb" revolver. I had finished the final buffing of the the brass and steel but never blued the the steel parts. What would be a good way to finish the steel? I like the antique look of the bare steel but would like something more rust proof.

Hi Hogleg Hunter, I have seen/heard of people that wanted a left in the white and all they did was rub the steel with Johnson's Paste Wax.

On the Bluing, I have never blued one before.

Hang on, someone will chime in here and help ya out Bud!  L@.

If a blue finish (or something close to it) is what you desire, check out Brownell's for a product called Oxpho-Blue (gel form) It's a cold bluing that looks very good and I have yet to wear it off.
