Hello from OZ
« on: March 04, 2016, 05:32:13 PM »
Although I've been shooting black powder for a few years, so far, I've never owned a Colt. I've looked at the London model but was advised by members of the club to get a Remington. After shooting BP pistol for a couple of years now, I'm back to looking at a new pistol as my Remington is a target model with adjustable sights. This means that my results in competition doesn't count. I'm getting better so would like to use a revolver that is eligible for the competition. I've always liked the look of the Colts so my next pistol will be a Colt. Unfortunately, here in Australia we are restricted in what BP revolvers our suppliers import.

I'm also involved in Cowboy Lever Action Silhouette competition and shoot an 1892 (actual year of manufacture) Winchester in 32-20 in pistol class and Winchester 9422 in rimfire class.

My collection of firearms is:
FIE .45 Kentucky rifle
Pedersoli .45 Alamo
Traditions Trapper .50
Uberti .44 Remington 1858
Winchester 1892 32-20
Winchester 9422
Carl Gustaf Mauser 6.5x55
Brno Tau7 Air Pistol .177

Welcome from Colorado.  Looks like it's time to add a Colt to that collection.

Welcome from Northern California USA! Yes, time to add a Colt cap and ball pistol to your collection.
My biggest concern is that when I pass away, my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them.

An excellent choice !
Welcome from Brittany, France.
Do you have pictures of your Kentucky ? I'd be glad to see it, and the markings on it too.

Welcome to the forum.  Grab a chair and get comfortable.  No one will bring your coffee so better grab your own.  Once you feel comfortable, join in or start a conversation.  We all like pictures, especially those of us who have trouble working out the written word.  Or even the typed word.

Did I say we like pictures?

As for the Colt, have you looked at the Improved Navy Colt?

Hi r5868, welcome aboard.

I got serious about shooting BP replica revolvers after getting the 1858 Remington. While the ugliest of the BP revolvers, they just run and run. Colts were always, and still are, very problematic for me. However, there is no revolver more beautiful and accurate than a tuned Colt. The Colts are natural pointers where the long sight radius screams accuracy.

If you truly want to amaze yourself on what a BP revolver can do, get an 1851 Navy. The Pietta 1851 and 1860 comes almost perfect right out of the box and is lower cost than the Ubertis that require some work.

Again, welcome to the most friendly shooting forum on the internet.

Regards,
Richard

Welcome aboard.

I'd have to agree with the general consensus, time to procure a Colt type cap and ball revolver.  Remington's are nice but they don't feel the same in hand as a Colt.  Most of my experience is with the 1851 Navy but find something you like and go for it.

Well did it this morning. I went and ordered my 1851 Navy London Steel. Turns out that there are two available in Australia. Should have it in 2 to 3 weeks.
