Not at all difficult for me,  1860 Army , followed closely by the 51 & 61's
Ahh...but WHY? This is an essay question!

OK fair enough... as to why ? we need to take the way back machine to 1957 or 58, it would be Christmas morning.
Under the tree ( real tree BTW ) is a package with a Hubley 45.
Note: the great resemblance to the 1860 Army , this beauty was embedded in my 9 years old mind ...course then the stupid PC orange muzzle cap was not needed ( these were simpler times )
Oh,  I had my Mattel's shoot'n 6's , Fanner 50's  but no other was as sweet as my 1860 Hubley....

I have collected 1860's since, including the Richards & Richard & Mason conversion.

Major,
Those are just plain old cool. It sure does remind me of Christmas morning. Roll caps, and later Greenie Stickum Caps. :-*  8)

I am surprised that nobody (to date) has chosen the Paterson as their fave.
I think if I owned one I would love it just because it's so off-beat compared to the other Colts.
That was one of the reasons I had to have an R&S and I don't regret it.

I'd think the Patterson...might fall under a different heading.

What is your favorite COOLEST  BP Colt or Colt repro ?

and if we did that ...I'd add the Colt Root 1855 Revolver too :)

Do you have a Root? If so, I'd love to see pictures!

My favorite is the 1851 Navy .36, but I also like the Confederate "copies" to include the L&R, G&G, S&G, August Machine Works, Columbus, and .36 Dance (did I forget any?). Since they all are based upon the 1851 platform, I feel you should have included them in the same category. I like the look and feel of the platform, even with the Dragoon-type part-octagon/part-round barrel. To me, "other" Confederate revolvers would be the Cofer, the Sisterville, and other non-Colt-type pistols. Maybe I misunderstood your definition.

My favorite "fantasy" pistol is an 1851 Navy .36 squareback with the L&R barrel and plain cylinder, the pistol I think Colt should have offered as the 1851 Navy Dragoon.

Anyway, you know how I voted.

Jim, I did not group them together because I know a few individuals that collect primarily Confederate revolvers and care little for the 'Yank' revolvers, 1851 included.

Major, you have some very fine looking guns. I am still, however, enamoured with your Henrys.

The 1861 model is it.  That revolver is more a work of art than a firearm.

This is the only Paterson I'd want and the Root doesn't excite me at all.
