Thoughts on buying a capper? Worth it?

I tried a straight on that doesn't seem to work on a navy?

Cappers don't work well on Remingtons without modifying the capper or the cylinder. I have a couple but never use them.

You're confused, Hawg. This ain't the Remmy forum.... (7+"

Straight line cappers work so-so on Colts too. I've seen folks modify the cutout surrounding the nipple (cone) and I've seen the capper modified. Neither is adequate IMHO. I end up getting frustrated simply trying to load the damn capper.
What seems to work the best for me (YMMV) is to gently seat the cap using thumb and forefinger, then push it home using a piece of dowel rod. Maybe others can chime in with a capper that works for them, but I find them too aggravating. )H^

I tried them, didn't work well. Caps jambed in the spring ,some loaded  upside down.
Threw it away and use my fingers and and a small dowel to snug caps on nipple.

I use a Ted Cash and a Traditions, both straight line.  They work fine (for me) on Colts and Remingtons.  They’re a bitch to load though.  I usually, almost always, finish off with a press from some wooden dowel rod.

I use a Ted Cash snail capper.   Holds 100 caps, easy to load with caps and lets you keep shooting instead of loading you capper.  A couple strokes with a file on the tip will enable you to use it with both Colt models and Remingtons.

Does the Ted Cash snail capper work well with Remington #10 caps?  I've noticed the straight line capper I've been using on my 51 Navy is a little too short for the #10's, stopping them from sliding into place.

I use mostly Remington #10s in mine.   Works fine.

That is all I use in my straight line and snail (revolver) cappers.  I use a TDC  snail capper on all my revolvers, whether 1851s, 1860s, 1861s, Dragoons, Whitneys made by DGG, Pietta, Palmetto, Uberti or Colt.

I use an ok plastic capper on a knight inline, but for revolvers, I just use my fingers..

I think I am going to try one ,, but I guess the only reason is to make loading a little quicker ... Which in a way is sort of contrary to the whole point of this new obsession of mine....

I've used straightline cappers with mixed results. I have a Ted Cash snail capper that works better.

Hi, I have also had marginal results using either the snail or straight line capper. Either a cap won't drop down into position or gets inverted. There are at least four or five of those useless to me devices somewhere on the bottom of my BP supplies junk drawer. I just use my fingers to cap and then push the caps with a wooden dowel.

Richard
