Hunting Hitler
« on: January 05, 2017, 09:28:01 AM »
Now, let me put this right up front. I only started watching this ridiculous series because it came on right after Oak Island. And despite a plethora of evidence suggesting "possibilities" that Hitler might have had an out from Berlin, do I think he really did escape?
No.
In 1944, Hitler was in the final ravages of syphilis, if you believe history. If he had survived much after the war he would have been in really bad shape, and requiring constant medical attention. Certainly not in any shape to be crawling though tunnels and fleeing war tribunals and Nazi hunters well into the sixties as the show wants you to buy into.
But what IS important...far more!...is that they have discovered an extensive network by which other high ranking Nazi officials could have...and likely DID...escape both prosecution and retribution (Nuremburg) including war criminals such as Martin Bormann and Paul Schaffer. To me, this revelation is far more frightening than the original premise of the show...that Hitler somehow escaped the attack on Berlin. Also, that the Third Reich brain trust survived and began planning a Fourth Reich attack on the US and Allied countries. Hitler was only one man, after all.
Anyone else into this?

Capt,

I have seen an episode or two of it when flipping by, but other than that, not really into it from the standpoint of hey I gotta watch this they might really be on to something.  Are they ultimately going to come up with factual evidence that he escaped, of course not.

You should watch the season finale (just aired last Tuesday). The most revealing and damning evidence that an escape route and hiding place DID exist for fleeing Nazi war criminals. After watching this, I'm reasonably certain that the Nazis hung after Nuremburg were either scapegoats or simply missed the bus out of Berlin. Bormann's evident escape are perfect evidence of this. He was definitely high on the necktie party guest list but was believed to have been killed in Berlin. Now they found damning evidence placing him in Argentina post-1955 and possibly as late as the Sixties.

A lot of Nazi war criminals fled to Argentina.

I think that is an non-argumentable point.

Hitler died in the bunker with Eva and Blondi.

I don't believe that at all (well, maybe Eva Braun and Blondi: extra baggage).

Supposedly, Hitler's remains were brought outside of the bunker and burned. Easily found by the Soviets. One would think they would have paraded this around, but that is not the case.

The Nazis were in South America long before the War. They always had a philosophy to have a plan to endure, no matter where. They looted much gold and many treasures from banks and museums in Europe (and elsewhere) to continue with their venue. They even had bank accounts in supposedly "neutral" Switzerland (Die Schweitz) during and far after the War.

Even if Hitler survived the War for a few years, he was not the only Nazi to embrace the ideals of National Socialism to the bitter end, no matter where and when that might be. Mengele, Bohrmann, and Eichmann were just the tip of the iceberg.

I agree that the History Channel takes liberties in all of its shows. It is almost like ancient mythology: there is a kernel or two of truth at the beginning that spreads into folklore.

"Hunting Hitler" has uncovered many very interesting items, but my problem with the Villa Baviera show has to do with how a camera/sound crew can record findings of the team(s) going unnoticed by anyone in the area. That is a stretch unless there is some complicity there, to include their very eager guide and the "resort's" personnel.

I will continue to watch the show, but I sincerely believe they won't find definitive evidence of Hitler in SA.

He may be hiding in a secret bunker on Oak Island.

Not worried about Hitler, Rog. I'm concerned that a butt-load of Nazi war criminals escaped prosecution for their macabre and heinous acts and lived out their natural lives in relative comfort, albeit in hiding. That truly offends my sense of justice and morality. Soldiers are soldiers and must follow orders. The guys GIVING the orders are the ones responsible for the acts committed...which in this case were atrocious...and should not have been allowed to take a bye for the rest of their natural lives (although they are surely roasting in Hell's BBQ pit today).

Probably so.  No matter how one may make light of them now, they were a bunch of no-goods.
