Remington difference
« on: May 14, 2017, 07:56:47 AM »
Well on the fence again. Got some extra jingle in my pocket and have need to turn it into nother sixgun of the C&B variety.

Have heard that the Pietta rem has grown in actual size over time ... True?

Question is ... Is the Uberti model still the same size as the original Rem?

I have an older brasser Pietta that I cut down as it was WAY heavier then the Colt 60 model.

I like the Rem style but want one that follows the original in size and weight. I know that the 75 Rem model is very close in size to a Colt SAA of the same barrel length.

What say you? Pietta or Uberti 58 model?

I would agree with Scooby. To me the Pietta is ungainly and inferior to the balance of the Uberti.  Now the old Euroarms were the same size as an original . I have one and the differance between it and my Pietta is huge

Thanks Scoob. My older (CA) brasser is a heavy bugger and tho I would like to have another Rem ... I had hoped the Uberti is a less cumbersome revolver then this old brasser.

I have the Uberti covered jingle wise ... I do know that Uberti is a much better finished revolver. Didn't know about the Grip Frame being thinner ... Thanks for that.

Think I'm bout ready to order ... Now just the decision as to who to order from ... My experience with Buff Arms in Idaho has been Great. Don't Care for Dixie's bulk businesses but they do save round 10 dollars for the revolver.

Hi Ted, I have both brand 1858 Remingtons. I prefer the Uberti 1858. You may want to see this video:

Uberti is closer but still a little big unless they downsized when they went to forged frames in 07. Pietta grips are huge.

Thanks for the info. I placed an order with Buffalo Arms for the 7.5 inch Uberti Remington imported by cimarron. Blue and brass tg.

Can't wait till it arrives now. I know that my Pietta brasser is very smooth so can't wait to see what the total difference is between the two. Have a holster for it layin round and a bunch of.454 balls cast as well as the Lee conicals. Did someone say that they have a dovetail front sight already?

Don't think I been this excited since I went to pick up my cavalry Colt up in northern Oregon. YIPPEE.

Hi Ted, good for you!! I look forward to your review and shooting report. 7.5" barrel? I thought that all 1858s Remingtons were either 8 or 5.5". It's a .44 caliber?

Regards,
Richard

Yes 44 cal. Buffalo Arms advertising says "blue, 7.5 inch barrel, brass trigger guard, imported by Cimarron. Will see when the durn thing gets here. I'm hoping that this revolver will accept the paper cartridges better then the Pietta model 1860 does. I'm betting that it will as my Uberti 1860 accepts the heeled bullets from Lee mold.

Shure is exciting to be waiting for another new revolver.
