Poor Boy makeover

Hi, the Pietta .36 Navy I purchased from Electric for $75 arrived yesterday. It was one of some firearms that he owned collecting dust. Further communication with Electric said that the 1851 was bought as a collection of parts from a coworker. The supplied grips were stripped of finish and the cylinder had rough machining done to the cylinder notch lead-ins. The revolver was torn down and parts inspected. Many of the screws showed excessive wear not consistent with the clean bright barrel rifling and 2011 dated frame, or other action part like the hammer, bolt, and hand.

This is not a complaint, I got a great deal for $75. Many of the screws were replaced, a reduced Wolff power spring installed, the brass polished, and the cylinder replaced. The revolver is tight as new with a 0.005" barrel/cylinder gap and the timing is perfect. The stripped grip is now being refinished with Tung Oil.

This Poor Boy revolver will be shot this weekend. Ten spare cylinders are loaded and ready to go.

Glad you like it. I'll admit to having made some money, even at that price. If I'd been selling it elsewhere, I'd likely have asked more.

Hi, shot the ten loaded cylinders (.380" ball, 20gr Black Mz) with Poor Boy Pietta 1851 yesterday. I had only two cap jams that were easily cleared. The air was hot and still where the smoke just laid in the range were seeing the targets was difficult. Slow fire groups, using two hands, from 25yds were ~2", consistent with my other 1851s. What's nice about the Poor Boy is that it has poi closest to poa of any of my other BP revolvers with the stock sights, shoots ~2" high. This Poor Boy is a keeper!

I like the wood. That is where my eyes go when I see a gun. The case colors are fantastic. It is a Pietta "tail" and I never had a problem with that as it fits my hand very well. Very nice gun!

I think Fancy Girl is appropriate.
