Mr. Wilson spent some time in prison for fraud.  I don't know if he had his conviction overturned on appeal.

Stuck inside all weekend.  Checked trigger pull on Uberti '51.  Consistently averaged 1 lb 14 oz.  Stock springs, unmolested full cock notch.  I previously polished the pins and deburred frame.  Good internals on these things.

Hi Dave, you mention that you used 0.380" buckshot balls? I also use Ballistics Products 0.380" buckshot, but they are hardened lead. Loading with a small on-the-gun loading lever is very difficult. They are also very tough on my Tower of Power loading tool loading off the gun. So as to not destroy my Tower of Power, I use an arbor press for the buckshot, see:

If you load buckshot on the gun, how do you do it?

Just a newbee Q; you guys who use .38 buckshots of harder/alloyed lead, have you noticed any adverse effects on the lands, like wearing down of the edges, or anything like that? I suppose we're talking Italian replicas, not US originals. Are the barrel steel of the replicas much harder than that of the originals?

No wear at all.  Even soft Italian steel is a LOT harder than any lead bullet alloy.

Hi Len, I use Oregon Trails Laser Cast bullets in my conversion cylinders and never noticed any barrel wear. The buckshot is much softer than the Laser Cast bullets. If you have a convenient means to load it, hardened buckshot is not a barrel wear issue.

Hi Len, some research shows:

1) Pure Lead @ 5 bhn
(2) Factory Swaged Lead @ 8.5 bhn
(3) Wheelweights @ 12.5 bhn
(4) Oregon Trails Laser cast bullets @ 22 bhn

The Ballistics Products buckshot is swaged lead with antimony to harden it to prevent deformation on firing. While pure lead can be work hardened a little, it anneals at room temperature and becomes soft again.

Yep, greed got to him. He swapped out parts from guns he was inspecting/appraising as I remember. Too bad, but those are still some great books!
