Fluted 1860
« on: June 16, 2018, 06:26:51 PM »
Just got back from Friendship.
One of the guns shot was this Uberti 1860:

http://blackpowdersmoke.com/colt/index.php/topic,2731.0.html

Limited Time Fire target, 10 shots 10 minutes 25 yards

International target, 13 shots 10 high to score 25 yards

Decent, but did I mention this Army shoots WAY high?
Was aiming at the logo at the bottom of the target.

All these matches are shot 1 handed, unsupported.

Nothing wrong with that gun Dave.   The shooter is working well too.

Nicely done Dave! Surprising the Army shoots that high (I have no experience with them so is that normal?) but great job managing it.

My other Army shoots a bit high, like take a 6 o'clock hold on the black, but nothing like this.  None of my 1851s shoot this high.

JBWeld build up may be the answer to keeping profile but taller.  My math says I need 0.1" more to get it where I want.  A knife file got the rear notch adjusted for windage.

Hi Dave, good shooting especially being one handed. Yeah, most 1860s shoot high like you have shown. You can use this sighting calculator to determine how high your new front sight needs to be:

https://www.brownells.com/guntech/sight_correction_calculator/detail.htm?lid=13093

I have been putting in tall dovetail sights in my 1860s, you can buy from here:

Standard.  I need to keep the same profile.

Just thinking aloud here. If it were mine and I wanted to raise the sight, I'd make a jacket of very thin brass sheet (K&S stuff) and glue it over the old. Same shape. More durable than JB.

That's some serious good placement, well done.  I'll be a Democrat if I don't just love a Colt Sixty, damn if I don't.
