The following are most of my molds. Not shown are the old Ideal combination mold/reloading tong tools and my Winchester molds. Maybe a photo shoot for another time.:

My recommendation would depend on your chamber size.
Lee moulds are the cheapest and come complete with handles. Others DON'T.
Lee's are aluminum. This means they heat up very quickly  :) but also cool down very quickly  :'(
Iron moulds will stay hot for quite some time while you stoke the lead pot, run to the 'biffy', etc....
The Lee conical moulds are very good IMHO. They cast a 200gr .44 conical that loads easy and hits very hard. It also drops quite a bit more.
Quite honestly, you can get started much cheaper using Lee gear, and invest in better moulds later if you decide you want to. I still use all my Lee moulds but have invested in a few Lyman moulds as well.

If you would like advice, you need to provide a bit more information.  First, what caliber are you considering and/or what cartridge?

Hi, I have a number of low cost Lee molds and generally like them. However, there was a time not long ago that Lee changed their block alignment taper pins for rods. The rods never aligned well and Lee has now returned to the pin method for alignment. The Lee molds being aluminum allow the whole mold to be close to the same temperature, a good thing. You will find that as your casting skill improves that all molds will overheat and need to be cooled down. Aluminum allows cooling faster than steel or brass molds, just touch one edge to a wet paper towel  does the trick.

I suggest starting with the small Lee melt pot and ladle. A teaspoon can also be turned into a nice ladle. You will also need some wax to flux the lead melt (beeswax works great and can also be used to lube the mold sprue plate and pivot points). Once you become an expert casting, you may then opt for the Lee bottom feed melt pot. Then no ladle is required.

The secret to doing good quality casting is to heat the mold before beginning casting. Setting the mold on the top of the melt pot is a good method to getting the mold to the correct temperature. If the mold is too cold you will find that the mold doesn't completely fill for a number of casts, but early casts can also be used to bring the mold up to temperature. Return the defective projectiles back into the melt pot.

Lead oxide is poisonous so work in a well ventilated area. If you have children in the house, protect them from lead oxide and cast outside. Wear leather gloves and always wear safety glasses.

Casting your own projectiles is a very enjoyable part of shooting. Have fun, but be safe.

Regards,
Richard

To properly determine your chamber size(s) you need to mic out your cylinder bores (all six) using a set of calipers (inside diameter arms). Taking the LARGEST reading (e.g. .450) add .003-.005 to that reading for proper sized ball. In this example, it would tell us the proper sized ball would be .453-.455 meaning a .454 would be perfect and a .451 too small.
Same goes for your .36
Generally, I like to use the largest ball I can shove down there without damaging the loading lever. If you are using an off-gun loader, all the better. Presses like the Tower of Power allow you to shoehorn in anything up to .457 with ease.

Hi Captain, you mention the Tower of Power. Yesterday I reloaded 6 (36 rounds) cylinders using my Tower of Power. It took me less than 15 minutes to reload and cap all those cylinders. The Tower of Power reloading tool is the best thing since sliced bread IMO.
