Adding a new pistol to the collection
« on: July 17, 2020, 05:23:42 PM »
I wasn’t planning on getting another revolver any time soon but I came across a guy selling a walker colt so I went to check it out. After seeing it in person I knew I had to buy it. The thing is huge, you can’t really tell in the photos but it’s like holding a cannon. I took it out shooting once but soon found out that the arbor is to short and it needs to be shimmed. Sent it to a guy to have it fixed and the action slicked up a bit. Can’t wait to get it back, so much fun to shoot

Welcome from Wisconsin. Did you send it to Goon?

That thing is huge at 4 lbs. 9 oz., and the Dragoons are still huge at 4 lbs. 2 oz. I have an Uberti Whitneyville Hartford Dragoon (some say the Transitional Dragoon).

Comparison photo:

The Dragoons were considered the Old Model Army revolvers, and because of their weight, were considered saddle revolvers to be carried in saddle pommel holsters. Around 1858 Colt wanted a .44 belt pistol and designed the 1860 Army .44 around the 1851 Navy frame at around 2 lbs. 9 oz. Quite a difference as one can see.

Regards,

Jim

The Manuel said to use #11 caps but I’ve been reading that other people use #10, I’m gonna try both and see what works best. I only tried 11’s on my outing, they seemed to work fine but didn’t fall off at all while firing. I had to remove them with my finger
