Need a little help w my new Navy
« on: June 20, 2021, 08:14:05 AM »
In taking it down I discovered that the hammer had a hitch in getting pulled back...my Piettas don't have that issue.. took springs out of the equation..long story short if the hand is taken off , it (the hammer ) moves ok .. but with the hand on and in place, you have to "work it " on pulling it back..didn't know if this is a "wear in situation or not .. I'm comparing it to Piettas that have been shot a fair amount...

Any thoughts or guidance?

Sounds like a burr in the hand channel. I have one that actually had a ledge in the hand channel and caused a broken hand spring. I would go in with a jewelers file and take out any burrs.

It's the hand hitting the arbor. Without the cyl in place, it moves forward of its  position.
I usually clearance for that when arbors need re- torquing/fitting (since it will be removed anyway).  When I sell "new in the box" revolvers, I'll be doing that as a standard as well (like they're sposed to be!)

Thanks all! There was a burr , but then the hand was definitely hitting the arbor

Back together and very nice now ...

Interesting seeing the differences in the two guns , the hand on the Uberti seems to fill up the slot that it protrudes through to ratchet the cylinder and the bolt/ cylinder stop is thinner and seems more finely machined than the Pietta bolt...

The Uberti action parts are the finest ever put in a cap and ball revolver I think .  .  . whether Colt or Remington pattern.
