I have this '51 Navy brasser.....
« on: July 04, 2021, 02:04:50 PM »
...and would like to know more about it. I got it used (so at a good price) and not functional. I took it apart many times, tweaking it, and now it is in working order. My question is...what is it? There is no makers' mark that I can see.

The date stamp (BN) indicates 2000, but the frame looks newer than the barrel/cylinder. Sooo, parts gun, or? Any thoughts?

I think it's an unmarked Pietta. I think them and Uberti were the only ones still in business in 2000.

I'd say the frame is Pietta anyway.

I'm with Hawg. The samping characters look Pietta to me. Uberti was not doing brassers in 2000. Looks identical to my son's Pietta, finish and all.

Hi, I agree, a Pietta sold by Cabelas.

Stampings definitely look like Pietta. I had the same gun in .44 and swapped a steel frame onto it. Not sure why it's not marked. Maybe a kit?

Somebody probably did a barrel swap. I didn't think about that when I made my first comment.

Yeah, I was thinking a barrel swap too, but it and the cylinder match as to finish. And there is a number stamped on the rear of the cylinder that matches the last 3 of the frame serial number. Did Pietta make a non-blue finish? And with a brass frame?

I believe that they did altho it was highly polished.

The steel parts all look like they came in the white, and not had a finish removed. Did Pietta ever market a kit with the short barrel? But the brass looks pretty factory too. So that would probably indicate it's not a kit.

Maybe it's a "lunchbox gun". Some guy at Pietta snuck parts out of the factory in his lunchbox. Kinda like the Pyschobilly Cadillac.
