Apparently Old Sam Colt like the '51 Navy best of all his creations as he chose to have his portrait painted with him holding a '51 Navy in his hand!!!!

Two more 1851's just landed in my gun safe... Now it's up to ten 1851's in house...

I had the chance to buy two mint 1851 Colt second generation commemoratives. These are the Grant and Lee commemoratives. They came without the boxes and the other accouterments. However, the price was too good to pass up. How could I pass up $300.00 apiece?

Just a little while ago, I got the boxes that go with the Lee and the Grant 1851's. Now I just need the other accouterments.

I'm very fortunate that I have a wife that likes Victorian era antiques. She is fully supportive in my cap and ball firearm acquisitions.

Hi Bill, congratulations, sounds like you made out like a bandit for that price. Will you display those new 1851s, or do they need to hide in the gun safe?

BTW, one can never have too many 1851s. &\? &\? &\?

Richard

This post is so old I probably posted in it before. Yeah 1851 is my absolute favorite. and any that look like a '51. Just cant get into the Colt Streamlined Models. Although I have 1(ea) 1861 Navy. It just reaffirmed my affection for the '51!

My favorite anything is maritime themed etc.  Three things strike me here-  Colt 51 Navy, 60 Army, 61 Navy and 62 Navy.

51 Navy  ?

60 Army-  has  'Navy'  scene but is .44

61 Navy has  'Navy'  scene!

62 Navy has Stagecoach scene.

So,  I like the 61 Navy.  In a way it is my favorite because of the Navy thing.  I mean I see it as the issue weapon to Naval personnel.  Not that it was, I just relate it as such etc.

,and the manner in which I aquired it, what it arrived with and so on was different from all the rest.

My first 51 was a suprise gift. Got a box delivered by the brown truck, inside the box
is this 1851 with a light colored wood grip, on the top of barrel inscribed Navy Arms.
Date code revealed made in 1978.
So I call the sender, my son in law living in Colorado. He sez,"thought you might like it
so I sent it."
Then I bought a new 51 Pietta and a G&G  a 62 Police ,now entertaining the purchase of a 61 Navy.
Them all cool.......... (7&

IMHO, could be!
The looks, the feel.....CLASSIC!
While I love the satisfying CLANG! of a .44 slug on a gong, the .375 RB is a proven man-stopper, and pretty much the choice of 90% of all confederate sidearms. There were a lot of technically better Colts produced after the '51, and arguably a lot of better firearms than the open-top Colts for that matter. But few spur the imagination like the classic look of the Navy revolver. Even though it was on it's way to being obsolete by the beginning of the Civil War, it served as a platform for many Confed copies such as the Schneider & Glassick, Griswold & Gunnison and others and earned it's rightful place in history.

Hi Kirk, his coolest gun is the one he is currently shooting. I understand the concept, any gun in your hand is the coolest.

Richard
