Taurus Gaucho 1873?
« on: February 06, 2014, 03:25:35 PM »
I have never seen one myself, just wondering if any of you have one, or have handled one of the Taurus versions of the venerable Colt '73, the Gaucho? I have an article from a shooting magazine from a few years ago, and it seems as though the biggest departure from the basic design is the hammer/transfer bar/firing pin for safety.

My only Taurus is a PT 145 Millenium  45 ACP pistol. It has a sharp recoil!

Mazo, I also have the PT145 M. I really like it. I shoot hand loads in it. 200gr LSWC over 5.5 gr Unique. Nice load and very accurate out of the 145. It is my carry piece. )k*  (But not with the hand loads. I carry Speer Gold Dots)
Black powder smoke is my Aromatherapy.

I'll be hand loading for my PT145, thanks for the tip on the 200 grain SWCs. I got my gun used (very little!) with three magazines.

Mazo, just a note on the LSWC bullets. When I load them I make sure there is a small amount of lead above the case for the bullet to ride on. I've never had a problem loading that way, and I've loaded 45ACPs with 200 LSWCs for over 30 years. Used to have a Star 45 and it loved the 200 grainers. I keep about 1500 of them loaded up all the time. Wouldn't carry the lead bullets, but love them for fun shootin' at the range.   L@.
Black powder smoke is my Aromatherapy.

I have a Taurus .357 mag that most people think when they look at it is a S & W.  I've had it since the mid 90's, and like it quite a bit, but it's more of a "dresser drawer" gun nowadays.  I haven't shot it in around 2 yrs.  I had looked for a Gaucho way back when, but they seem to be hard to come by, and expensive when you do.  Perhaps the reason no one seems to be wanting to sell them is they like them.  don't know for sure.

Hi Mazo, that's the thing...I don't know what it is. That is the same one as mine but, it's not a Gaucho as I understand.
Mine is just called a Taurus SA .357mag.
I'm looking for ANY information that I can get.

Taurus had one called the Gaucho, but their latest catalog doesn't show it, or any of the 1873 clones. They are listed as Archived and no longer made.

Apparently, the Taurus single action is called the Gaucho. The model number is SAxxxxx, depending on which model it is, but they are all the Gaucho.

And they do not appear to be made anymore.

Here's the number on mine:
YJ346764
Tell me about mine, please.  ;)

So, I can order any Gaucho grips and they will fit right on my gun?

Yours is a Gaucho 357 .357/38SP Revolver - Matte Stainless Steel made in 2007. Model number 2-357071MSSA.

And since it is a Gaucho, any grip for the Gaucho should fit.
