My Uberti 1873
« on: March 15, 2016, 12:44:23 PM »
Just a couple of pics of my Uberti 1873 44/40 made in 1997. I shoot both smokeless and black powder cartridges with it. Because it has a 30 inch barrel, the muzzle end gets a little fouled so I swab the barrel about every 15 shots to keep it clean when using Swiss black powder.

My biggest concern is that when I pass away, my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them.

That '73 is one of the nicest Winchesters I've seen! Really love the case hardened frame.

I use SPG lube also but the 30 inch barrel makes it difficult for the lube to carry all the way to the muzzle. Maybe I should try some of Dick Dastardly's Big Lube bullets.

Or....maybe use a lube cookie to carry extra lube down the barrel?

Those big lube bullets have a bunch of mixed reviews, from an accuracy standpoint.  There are many posts on various forums about this, but in a nutshell, the CAS crowd loves them and the farther from the end of your rifle crowd finds them lacking.

A fellow who goes by w30wcf on another forum has a good bit of experience with getting the 44 WCF shooting with loads that duplicate the original loads.
