I like the little rifles. The Germans and the English perfected the hunting rifles, especially the single shots. Very light and agile to use yet chambered in decent cartridges or chamberings. I got to handle a 6 pound English stalking rifle that was cut for a 50 caliber roundball. The powder charge was 130 grains of black powder and the rifling pitch was one turn in 400 calibers (1/200"). They considered it the proper deer rifle for 200 yards and under. It led to the development of the Express cartridges. I also am aware of a Whitworth stalking rifle, about 6 pounds and cut for the 451 hexagonal bullet.
