61 Navy -Cabelas
« on: May 24, 2016, 11:02:06 AM »
Anybody know why Cabela's doesn't carry a 61 Navy model?  Maybe they used too but no longer do?  It's definitely on my must have list.

They used to carry 1861's for sure, I got one from them many years ago and it is still just the shootinest thang.  Being from Cabelas it is a Pietta of course. My next '61 will be an Uberti.  The Pietta version is an eight inch which is 1/2 inch too long for historical accuracy.  Uberti's are true on at 7 1/2 inch.

PC notwithstanding, the Pietta '61 is a real nice shooter and a pleasure to the eye.

sltm1,

That looks like a great one.  I just bought an 1860 so I need to hold off a bit, but, I will make a note that you have this and get back to you, unless someone takes it off your hands in the meantime.

Hi whip, IMO if you buy Cabelas Pietta 1862 Police you are getting the 1861. Having said that, Cabelas doesn't currently offer the 1862.

Last year I struggled with buying an 1862 Police. I bought the Uberti 1862, but very disappointed in that there isn't a conversion cylinder available for it. I then bought the Pietta 1862 where the 1851 conversion cylinder is a perfect match. The Pietta 1862 isn't an 1862, but really an 1861, go figure.

Richard

Whip,  I've got both the Pieta and Uberti 1861's, the Pieta is a joy to shoot, haven't fired the Uberti yet. I prefer the lines of the '51 navy though, so that's what I'd buy if  could only own one percussion revolver.

Yessir Delbert, there's something about the '51 that whispers softly "get a pair of them, pilgrim".

Richard is right.  The pietta 1862 police is really a 1861 with a fluted cylinder and a shorter barrel.  I got one and got a spare cylinder for a 51 navy and it looks like a shortened 61.  Carries real well and shoots good but the arbor is now loose so it's a safe queen until I Have time to fix it.

I think the barrel profile of the Ubertis are a bit smoother than the piettas but the piettas are priced right and good shooters, especially the newer ones.
