My restaurant recommendations
« on: October 20, 2016, 09:07:21 PM »
:hysterical: This is a list of the area restaurants that I personally eat at and recommend. Just locally owned - no chains. For any of you who might visit the area, these are my preferred joints.

CHANGE - Rosa's Pizzaria - fabulous Italian/Sicilian food Original owner retired - not as good now.
http://www.rosaspizzeriaprescott.com/pg2.html

Speed's Hanger Deli - Incredible sandwiches and deli food
No website.

CHANGE - Brown Bag Burgers - new owner not as good now
http://brownbagburger.us/

Marino's Mob Burger
https://www.facebook.com/marinosmobburgerandicecream/

Backburner - was our breakfast place until we moved. Still good.

Leff-T's - our normal steak joint

Zeke's - country diner-type food

Fresca's - New York style paninis salads and gelato. Family with Rosa's and from New York.

Mount Fujiyama - Japanese and sushi

Prescott Brewing Company - brew pub with great food

The Barley Hound - pricey, but incredible food. I recommend the Scotch egg made with duck sausage, the pork rinds made onsite, and the bread pudding is to die for.

Murphy's - upscale dining
No Website

Thai Cafe - hasn't been open all that long, but great food.
No website

Toi's Thai Kitchen - little hole in the wall with decent food
No website

Park Plaza Liquor and Deli - a deli located in a really well-stocked liquor store. Carries around thirty different single malt Scotch whiskies.

That's off the top of my head. These are the restaurants that my wife and I eat at and have no problems recommending to others.

If you are from this area, feel free to add your list of non-chain favorites. If you're from somewhere else, add your list from your area. I may be visiting your area eventually. Stick to non-chain, please.

I haven't been to Prescott in over a decade.  Last time I was there, I ate in a little hole in the wall place facing the square.  A M&P shop but great lunches.

New place for the list...

Ate lunch here today. It was stellar!  They have a sandwich called the Triple Smoked Pork Cherry Bomb (Pulled pork, andouille sausage, bacon, caramelized onions, and smoked mozzarella on a fresh baked hoagie roll) which was fabulous! I have not had better bbq in this area in years!

E.M, of your original list, did any succumb to the pandemic shutdown? A lot of local restaurants here did not survive.

I did remove a couple that are gone now, though not due to covid. They went under prior to covid. The restaurants that covid killed were not places I ate at anyway.

I'm still looking for others to add their recommendations for their areas.

Please? I'd appreciate it.

Nichols West, Congress, AZ.

All they have is a Facebook page, no website. You can find them on trip advisor.

They do a Full English breakfast that is killer! They do a Shrimp and Lobster pot pie that is one of my favorites.

This is my breakfast stop now. It is good diner food, but the atmosphere is great, the employees are great, and the locals eat there.

We lost a few here do to the "pandemic". Very sad too, as they were family owned and operated. But here's a few of our local joints that we frequent regularly.

Pueblo Viejo The absolute best Mexican food anywhere on the planet. We eat here once a week.

Hana Sushi I know, it's not to everyone's taste. But we love it and Hana is some of the best we've had.

R.J.'s Sizzlin Steer Our local steak joint. Great food and service at a very reasonable price.

Yellow Basket Drive thru hamburger joint. But you can get anything there. My favorite is their Chicken Fried Steak Burrito for breakfast.

Ming Toy Chinese Restaurant
Local and family owned, so small they are cash only and swamped every time we go in there! We've been buying from them for over 40 years and it's never a disappointment!
No website. I told you they were small!

Thanks for the post!

You're welcome EM. I'll post more as I think of them.

Here's one I forgot.

Vincenzo's Olive Tree Best Italian food anywhere! And that's saying a lot, because I'm Italian. If my mon heard me say that, she'd disown me!

Vincenzo himself still runs the place and does a lot of the cooking. He's been in business for about 40 years. he immigrated here from Siciliy in the 50's and started out as a hairdresser! He used to make lunch for his employees, and it was so good they talked him into opening a restaurant. The rest is history as they say.
