Collector? I guess.
« on: November 02, 2016, 05:06:55 PM »
I never thought of myself as a collector.  However,  Seems I am!  I have many various gen Colts and want more!  I   u s e   them though!  They all have been fired except the one  'Brownboxer'  I have (3rd Dragoon).  I have accessories for them, holsters, belts and and and.    I have many replicas but am currently  'culling'  them.  Replacing all with  'Reproductions'.

Also,  I want the accessories for them.  I mean the Colt Gen series accessories.   V e r y   difficult to find though.  I have, as of   y e t! ,  not found any.  I m  not busting my back doing so, however I am actively searching.

So far, I have no driving urge to have a '51 Navy or Pocket Navy.  Never did want them.  for whatever reason,  never liked them.  Nor the Paterson.  Every day is a new day though.  We ll  see what we ll  see! , won t  we?

So,  reckon I am a collector.

I’m curious – why don’t you care for 51’s?  The looks?  Shooting characteristics? Other? Inquiring minds want to know.

I did get a Pocket Navy.  It is a favorite.  It is the only Colt I have with an oiled grip.  I love it!

You will find, through time, that sooner or later each one becomes your "favorite" in it's own special way...

Hi, I'm not a collector of original firearms. The way I rationalize my collection is to compare the cost of revolvers compared to a $1000.00+ green fee of a golfer. That lets me buy ~5 BP revolvers a year. My wife has even resigned herself to that argument. And Kirk, the new one is always the favorite.

Regards,
Richard

Not always! I spent most of my New Year's Day time-off in front of the TV playing with my 1851 Navy and deciding it was my favorite of the moment! Of course, this usually happens with all of them at some time throughout the course of the year! L@.

Also, I don't believe you have to own original firearms to be a collector. ALL my BP guns are Italian imports and I do consider myself a collector...I collect Italian imports. A BP revolver does not have to be an original, an antique, or even expensive to be worthy of collecting.
When I first got involved with these forums I owned three BP revolvers; I have managed to "collect" a bunch more since then! L@.

And as we collect, I find tastes in the models change as one either expands or shrinks
the numbers acquired. At least for me. Remingtons are nice, however I know lean more
to Colts, I quess because there is more variation in designs over the its long history.
So I have a wider selection to tempt me......... ::)

I agree. I find it funny when somebody says "those aren't collectible" yet there are people who collect them.

The 51 is my favorite and I'm more of an accumulator than a collector.

There are odder things to collect than Italian revolvers

And no I don't collect staplers
