Anyone know why the cylinders on the Patersons with loading levers have a radius on the rear and the ones without a loading lever have a square edge?   I hadn't noticed until Scooby mentioned it and now I see the one Fingers posted is like that too.

Possibly because the loading levers didn't come into being until after 1838; perhaps the rounded cylinder was a design refinement?
