Looks like a fun outing. I had a '66 For a while, traded with a buddy for it. Then he wanted it back so we did another trade.

Is the receiver on these brass like the originals, or brass-plated?

Solid brass like the originals (different metallurgy though).  That needs more BP run through it.  It's way too clean.

I bought an Investarms Hawken back in the 80's. The brass on it never did dull. The original 66's were made out of a bronze alloy, same as the "brass" Confederate revolvers.

I have noticed that the brass on some older Italian muzzleloaders did not gain a darker patina. The brass on a Thompson Center "Hawken" from the 80's would patina quickly.

It could be anybody's guess as to what the zinc content is when it comes to brass manufacture over the years. Who knows what else could have been added.

As well, bronze can have other alloys added besides tin.

The frames on both of my Uberti 1866's dull a lot slower than the frame on my older Unerti Henry.

The Confederate gunmetal bronze during the war had a high copper content, hence the nickname red brass. You see a lot of original Confederate revolvers with a red tint because of it.

I just got a 2017 Rock Island Auction catalog for $5 at a local gun shop. This is like a glossy coffee-table-book quality catalog, originally $40. It has several Confederate Revolvers pictured. Red Brass is a perfect name for the Confederate brass. It looks quite different from the mellow yellow brass on some old Colt's.

It's a steal.  Dixie and Buffalo Arms want over $1100 for one.
