how do you tell a ubertie from a Pietta

i have zero manufacture markings that i can find
 words or symbols

there is no serial number on the bottom of the grip frame
there is no number or markings on the under side of the frame or barrel

I have a "PN" under a star  marking on the cylinder  next to one of the nipples
I have "PAT N"  under along the bottom of the stagecoach scene

barrel is 9 inches,
the tag at cabalas said ubertie #5
and i know the guy there he's very knowledgeable  but didn't get to talk to him today when i bought it

280 stamped on the end of the cylinder shaft
280 stamped on the water table nipple groove
522 stamped on the rear of the cylinder
it has "normal" nipples like my 51 navy and not the 4 slot nipples

Hi old, IMO it may be a Pietta since Uberti uses the 4-side nipples. My Pietta has a number stamped on the end of the arbor, but I can't now read it since I have a brass button extension epoxy on. My 2016 Pietta Paterson has all kinds of markings on the barrel and frame, even the date 2016 stamped on the underside of the barrel. The serial number is stamped in the base of the grip. The cylinder has markings like yours.

I wonder if your revolver is a Pietta prototype, kit, or defarbed?

How does the revolver cycle? Is your trigger pull 8lbs or more?

It cycles smooth and locks in place without any wiggle-movement
there are wear spots next to the lock holes where someones not gone to full cock before letting the hammer down

the pull IS a heavy one a lot more than any other pietta pistol i have, I don't have a scale or a uberti to compare or test, but its a good pull and then pop it drops

The "PN" is the Italian proof house stamping, nothing more.

I might be wrong...  nothing unusual, but I thought the #5 Paterson revolvers had the loading lever. My Uberti Paterson does.

went back to cabalas today and talked to the guy in the library
 he saw the same proof marking and "assumed" itailian  so it was a Uberti  (this was when I told him only pietta sold the 9 inch barrel)
so the #5 is false also,,LMAO
he also says its been refinished,,(that i don't agree with yet)

so like you all have been telling me ITS a Pietta

but Has the serial numbers been filed off along with the Piettas logo-words,,,who the heck knows,
but me thinks its kinda hard to get the black and weird maroon/black coloring when doing a re-bluing, and IF they filed off the words and serial numbers,
they did a VERY GOOD JOB because it all blends in with all the rest of the frame and barrel

anyways,
I'm just gonna have FUN with it
as I'm tickled pink just to have a Paterson
