Two of my Single Shots
« on: August 26, 2013, 05:11:15 PM »
Here are 2 of my single shot muzzle loading pistols. I did some modification to them just to see if I could pour pewter. CVA and Lyman.

Now that shows some ingenuity! :-*
Different look altogether. Did you melt the pewter in a forge, or was a fire hot enough?

Propane torch and a lead ladle. Heat the pewter to just where it is molten and pour.

Interesting! Is that Birchwood Casey Plum brown, or Laurel Mountain browning on the metalwork?

I think the browning solution was some I had left over from a couple of Curly Gostomsky (old North Star) kit guns called "Old Time Browne" or something like that.

Looks very much like the Birchwood Casey. How is it holding up for wear?

Well, so far it is holding up very nicely. 'Course I really haven't used them much at all!  *6'

I've thought about buying a single shot pistol for a long time now.  Reading this post has me thinking again.  The Traditions Trapper model seems to catch my eye every once in a while.  I like the brass grip cap and brass ring on the forend.  The flintlock model has a lot of "old world charm".
The pewter on your's looks very good Mazo.   I'd like to try some thing like that.

Thanks, I had thought about doing the pewter caps for a while. One of my buddies convinced me it was do able so I just did it! The top pistol was my first and I like it better than the second one.

Yes, we had many long talks with them at rendezvous!
