I don't now about the front sights on the later series, but this one is definitely original.
Another first series' curiosity is the rounded grip, called "Miss America" (an understatement for "nice butt").
And then off course the double set of bolt holes for safety.
This is a 5 shot.
All four cylinder engravings are readable.
I got this at an auction a year and a half ago. It was wrongly described as a "pocket" in the catalogue, so it didn't draw much of an attention and I got it for $900, my cheapest revolver so far.

The Manhattans manufacturer was all set for when the Colt patent ran out in 1856, and they started producing right away in Jan 1857, so this one should have been made in Feb '57.

Thanks for sharing Len.  I saw an original in town here a year or so ago at an antique dealer.  I really like them.  Pretty sure it was a IV Series as it had that different style loading lever that gets a little beefier about halfway down.

Pretty sure it was $1200.  He had a few Colts also, the Colts were overpriced, but the Manhattan seemed like a good deal, at least I thought so.

I suppose it's Colt 51 Navy size.
It's a .36 with a 6" barrel and it weighs 1.92 lb

This Manhattan was up for auction last month. I maybe should have bid on it, but didn't.
