I don't now about the front sights on the later series, but this one is definitely original.
Another first series' curiosity is the rounded grip, called "Miss America" (an understatement for "nice butt").
And then off course the double set of bolt holes for safety.

All four cylinder engravings are readable.
I got this at an auction a year and a half ago. It was wrongly described as a "pocket" in the catalogue, so it didn't draw much of an attention and I got it for $900, my cheapest revolver so far.
The Manhattans manufacturer was all set for when the Colt patent ran out in 1856, and they started producing right away in Jan 1857, so this one should have been made in Feb '57.
