How to stain holster?
« on: May 22, 2018, 09:13:22 AM »
Hi, I have a few natural leather holsters made by LeatherSmithMike. I would like to darken a couple of them. I ordered a light brown stain, see:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008ROP41Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Does anyone have suggestions on how to apply the stain so I don't screw up beautiful holsters? After the stain is applied, is there anything else I need to seal the finish?

Regards,
Richard

Richard,   the holster needs to be cleaned first.  There is a wax finish on them that needs to be removed before the leather will absorb the stain.   Acetone will work but this is better...  https://www.fiebing.com/shop/?item=42570
Don't rub too hard with the cleaner or you will get spots that are darker than others.    Apply the stain with a swab or soft cloth and let it soak in to the leather.   It won't look perfect but as it dries the color will even out.

Hi Mike, thank you for the information and help.

I ordered this:

After doing the stain, is there anything I need to put over the stain?

Regards,
Richard
