Gent had lead pipe listed for sale not too far away.  His wife wanted garage cleaned out sooner so he updated to free, and I was lucky enough to be first.

Here it is back of my truck:


Should keep me busy for awhile!

Hi Dave, nice find!!

I think that lead pipe is pretty pure lead good for making balls and conicals.

Nice score.

I just got back to work from 4 weeks of vacation. Stopped by my old favorite gun shop in Illinois and bought 40 lbs of lead sheets (rolls) for $0.25 / lb. Old timer running the place is slowly selling everything off and wants to get out of the business. Illinois - Cook County has so many BS rules and taxes he's having trouble competing. Has a $0.25 per round bullet tax to deal with.

Yup, Illinois is worse than California in some respects. I prefer living in a free country... :)

Very good score on the lead. I got nearly 300 pounds of lead water pipe from a friend. City was replacing the lead pipe and he got a BUNCH of it. He gave me the last 200 pounds! I found that a limb lopper will easily cut the pipe into whatever size pieces you need for smelting. Still have about 30 pounds to smelt down.

42 pounds recovered so far and I really haven't made a significant dent yet.  Found that I don't have to cut all the way through the pipe.  Just notch it and bend away from the notch; it tears away from the notch, and then a twist yields a manageable section of pipe.  Been using an old rip saw that's missing a few teeth.

Can you save that sawdust (lead dust)? Just a word of caution; you probably already know this. I never put pieces of pipe into the already molten lead. Water has been known to be trapped in the lime deposit on the interior surface. Not a good thing to be anywhere close if that pocket of steam lets loose! Causes a visit from the Tinsel Fairy and very hard to clean up! Not to mention the pain if any gets on your skin.
