New to me, Pocket Navy
« on: January 28, 2019, 04:40:07 PM »
I did a little horse trading and came into this pistol. It's a Navy Arms from 1978, made by Uberti. It's in really nice condition and I'm happy to have it. I pictured it here with my Pietta Navy for size comparison. You don't realize how little these guns are, until you have one in your hand!

The gentleman I traded with, also included the really neat replica cartridge boxes with the gun. Very cool for display. Hopefully I will get time this weekend to take it out and shoot it. Range report will follow.

Nice one Dave.  Make sure your caps fit and bring along a pick and some tweezers.   If you don't know why yet you'll figure it out at the range

Thanks for the heads up Mike! But unfortunately I do know why the tweezers are needed! I had a 49 Pocket Model for a while.

This gun will eventually get a cap rake installed. Because the kids will be shooting it mostly, I don't want them to get discouraged by having to pick caps out of the action after every shot.

The cap rakes do work.

Hi Dave, very nice! I look forward to your shooting report.

I fill up the hammer slot with silver solder to minimize cap sucking. That helps a lot IMO. I also add a taller front sights to have poi=poa @25yds:

Dave,

Why do your acquisitions always look so pristine, as in LNIB?

Dang it, you are either going to have to move closer to me so I can get dibs on what you find, or pass it on to me!

Yes, the Pockets are very diminutive compared to the Navies. They get lost in my hand and you are a bigger guy than I am (I seen pitchers!).

Very nice, Dave!

Most cap sucking is caused by the sharp edges of the slot the safety nipples fit.
By filing off the edges and polishing the face of the hammer, all my cap problems have gone away
There is a YouTube video about this, I think Mike Bellevue was his name..

The Pocket Navy is a 6 shot or 5. I believe is a replica of a Colt Pocket 1862 that came out just before the Police Pocket .
Is Uberti making the Navy Pocket currently ?

They were, at least as of two years ago.  I got one NIB from Midway.  Foolishly traded it...
