Here is my 1878 Colt. Externally it looks pretty good, but the internals need work. Cylinder doesn't turn, etc. I believe the hand is broken as when I got it, the gun would function.....if you pointed the muzzle down. This is "modern" as it fires a 45 Colt cartridge.

Nice, looks like a good project. I'm curious about that round sideplate, seen them before, but what goes on under there?

Yeah, I've been saying that for a few years now! Just too MANY such projects. Here ya go, picture of what's under that round side plate:
The screw is actually the hammer pivot screw, access to the hand and sear, etc. as I see it. Will have to get Chicoine's book out to research it.

Yeah, I've heard that too! Also have a couple-3 Thunderers to work on if my projects slow down any....fat chance!
