Dad's Pistols
« on: June 18, 2019, 10:43:27 AM »
1st Gen 32-20.  My Grandfather bought it in New Mexico in the 50's.  Colt Archives say it was shipped to the Witte Hardware Co in St Louis in 1922.

2nd Gen SAA in 357 Mag, Couple of Frontier Scouts, and a 38 Super

Cowboy

Dad made and sold custom stocks/grips (as you can probably tell..lol)  He loved these old wheel guns, especially the Colts.  Just sharing...

Very nice iron there! I'd be proud to own any of them.

Oh my! Those are all gorgeous!! Your Dad definitely had a flair for making grips. I'd be very proud to have any or all of them.

Thank you for sharing them with us.

Thanks guys.  A pic of Pop from a magazine article.  He was a lawman down in Mississippi.  I still have his service pistol too (not pictured).

Thanks ShotgunDave.  I came by my love of these smokewagons honest.  Is there anything better?  I'd love to shoot the 1st gen 32-20 but I'm a little afraid that the pearl grips will fall apart.  I have a rule that I won't own anything I can't shoot.  I might just have to switch that bull head out with some black rubber and give her a spin.

You think just like I do. No safe queens in my house! Every gun has to earn it's keep.

I'd do just what you're suggesting. If the old grips are a little fragile, I'd get a pair of "gutta percha" grips and burn powder in it.

Whereabouts in MS? Be careful taking those grips off.

Oh my ... that first gen 32-20 is exquisite. She shows the care that has been given. Very nice collection for sure. Like you ... I would put the grips on display and replace em with plastic or wood, prolly wood. Shoot her ... she was meant to shoot.

Thanks for sharing. That pic of your dad is a keeper.

Yeah, Dad always said they might fall apart if they were taken off.  Scares the hell outta me.

Awesome pic, Howler. You should have that made into a full-size poster. I would.
Agree with the guys; guns were made to shoot. Swap out the grip sand burn out that barrel.
