Here's a couple videos I did of our shooting outing today. We had a great time.

Hello Dave,

Couple nice video's.
I really like your shooting bench, looks natural.
Never shot a paper cutter, hopefully it was just bad caps.
The 1860 conversion seemed to work, looking good.

Hi Dave,
RWS musket caps will solve your ignition problems.    I would give you some if I didn't have to mail them.

Hi Dave, neat! Shooting with kids is always rewarding.

There was an apparent ignition delay in your first shot. Do you think that using nitrated paper for your paper cartridges would help?

Regards,
Richard

Great videos Dave. CCI reduced the briance of their musket caps a few years ago due, I believe, to an incident involving a re-enactment skirmisher.  I have been shooting my Smith carbine on occasion using them and as long as I keep the fire channel fairly clean, they work OK. Of course, the pre-Reenactor caps and RWS caps are much more reliable.

Thanks Fellas. we really did have a good time. And now that the road is open again to our spot, we'll be doing it much more often.

You guys are absolutely right about the caps. The CCI re-enactor brand are terrible. They have much reduced power, and don't always reach the powder charge. I ordered RWS brand yesterday when I got home.

Richard is rigt, there was a delayed ignition on the second attempt. It's plainly visible in the video. I'm sure it was caused by the crappy caps. It was the only hang fire I experienced while shooting.

I gotta remember to start taking pictures of the targets. I get wrapped up in filming the actual shooting, and never show the results. I even used those Tru-View targets that show bright green around the bullet hole, so they'd be plainly visible. Then I went and forgot to show them. Those targets work good too. I could see the bullet holes with my naked eye from 75 yards.

Great videos. The kids seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Richard I used plain wrapping paper for my cartridges and once I got away from Pyrodex in it I had no hang fires. Pyrodex works fine in everything else but that long firing channel is just too much for it.
