Those sound like 20 grain wad only loads. This vid shows how they work and gives some history on them.

Hawg, that video is what got me looking around at Hotchkiss videos today! I watched several before I stumbled on the guys homemade BP contraption.

Entirely unrelated but there's a super cool video of an original bronze 12 pound Napoleon firing canister. It's super cool because you can hear the bell tone of the bronze barrel every time it fires.

I didn't want to hijack your thread with it. it's a longish video. They're doing research on the effect of canister. The best tones start at 3 minutes 54 seconds.
