My son's custom builds
« on: December 07, 2013, 08:13:02 PM »
The following are some of my son's bike builds. At the time, he was a mechanic at a large Denver bike dealer and he built several show bikes. No, not Harleys, but still very nice. This one took 53 hours to build and started life as a Road Star:

Yes, probably lots of money too! Fortunately, the dealership footed the bill for the labor and parts! I don't know if these were done after hours or during regular shop hours.

Very nice craftsmanship! It takes a real touch to do custom work like that!

Nice stuff Mazo,   did your son work for EXCELL Mototsports in Denver?  I have made a couple custom bike seats (none for any dealerships).  I used to buy stuff from EXCELL motorsports when I had bikes.   Your son does nice work.

Mike, I think that he may have worked at Excell at one time. I know he worked for Sun and another shop. He gave up riding after having had a bike since he was 17 years old; he lived in Castle Rock and rode to Denver on the I road. Said people were just too crazy. That and his back problem caused him to quit his line of work.

Mazo,  I practically spent my youth at Sun Harley Davidson/Honda,  spent a lot of money too.  Street bikes, dirt bikes, snowmobiles we had all the toys.  Now I wouldn't ride a bike in this city for all the tea in China.  I agree with your son.... too many crazy people,  actually just too many people period.   We used to live on the very edge of civilization now were surrounded by nothing but row houses.

Hi Mazo, how old is your son?
Sam, Dave is 46.  He lives in California now. His girl friend hauled him back with her; they were married this Spring.

Mazo, those are some nice bikes your son builds, but if he's not careful, he'll be up there in the ranks of master builders like Arlen Ness.  ;)

Thanks; but I think his building days are behind him now. When he was a teen he bought  his first bike, think it was a Yammy. We had a walk in basement and early every winter he would bring that bike in, put it up on a stand and come spring when he rolled it back outside, it looked like a new bike. That, and his electric bass, were his loves.
