This is my daughter's throwing knife. She took first place for women at the Midwest Rendezvous 'hawk and knife throw when she was about 14 years old. Mine is packed away.

I used a Russell skinner and modified it.

That's all for today, I think I must be at (or near) the end of the sharp pointy things!

Top knife is a German "Penny knife, bottom one is an Opinel. The Opinel is modern made, but the company is quite old, been making inexpensive knives for decades, and are carbon steel.

Opinels are awesome! I have quite a few of them. Here's the 3 I carry the most. A #6 for pocket carry, a #8 and a Garden Knife. I usually modify the handles a bit to fit my hand better.....they are fun to customize. I made sheaths for the #8 and the Garden Knife, they're just a tad too big for comfortable pocket carry.

They look pretty much the same as they did in 1890....and are inexpensive for a great cutter. $17.00 direct from Opinel USA. They also offer engraving services with remarkably fast turn around time.

I agree, they are great knives! If you shop around, you can find them for less money. I have given a few to friends as gifts. I prefer the carbon steel blades, but that's just me.

The knife number is the length of the blade in cm. minus one. Thus, the blade on a #6 is 7 cm long.

I have the #6 and #8 in carbon as well. They hold their edge very well. However the stainless is pretty darn good at keeping an edge as well....I was pleasantly surprised. I just strop them good after getting them and they are pretty darn sharp.... Best steak knife I've ever used..:)

The #8 in the picture that is engraved also has an olive wood handle (an option on stainless blades) that I modified and added a light stain.....I ordered it on a Thursday and it was in my mailbox the following Tuesday.

I'm also looking at a #12 .... just because.  It has close to a 5" blade. I think it would come in handy too......

Here's the website if you'd like to peruse the line up..https://www.opinel-usa.com/#

and a Pinterest page showing some of the mods guys have done with them.....https://www.pinterest.com/germccoy1967/opinel-mods/

Those Pintrest pages was a rabbit hole I didn't plan on going down!  (7+" (7+" (7+"

But wow, lots of creativity there for sure.

Mick, I like the way you modified some of your handles. I'm not sure of the number on one of mine, the blade measures over 7.5cm. A #6 or #7?

The website shows a #7 blade to be 3.07"....which translates to 7.79 cm

The #6 says 2.87" .....or 7.29 cm

So probably  #7.....:)
