Just a reminder; tomorrow, September 21st, is our annual Colt Country "Snap-a-Cap Day" in memory of our fallen comrades. Snap a cap (if possible in your neighborhood) and hoist a toast of your favorite beverage (yes, milk counts!) in memory of our brethren who have gone on ahead...this year, in addition to the gentlemen listed in the Roll Call section, we honor Jim Padberg (sourdough). If you can't snap a cap, you can pop a balloon, pop a paper bag, or even light off a black cat firecracker...just something to honor the fallen. And then, of course, take a photo or two and maybe a quick word about it here.

You are right, Steve was a very private man who did very nice things for people.

I know he was extremely nice to me.

He up and gave you a G&G, if I recall correctly.  A kingly gift.

Yes he did. It's one I'll never sell. I bought my dragoon from him and he threw in a bunch of other period stuff.

I've done the rites. This morning I shot 6 rounds at a DD4 target (2x4"). There was a slight drizzle but nothing to stop the ritual.

My neighbors will be mad, but I'll snap a cap later today for the guys. I'll also hoist a glass of whiskey.  *k>

I think the sunset today was a great tribute to our friends who have passed on.

Mission accomplished.

Been saving that one last snort of Jameson's just for the occasion. Charged one nipple of "Old Faithful" and lowered the hammer on torpedo tube Number One, with the cap being on Number Two, had a wee nip o' the Jameson's and stepped out into the back yard. Despite there being a full harvest moon tonight, the thick cloud cover made the walk out to behind the garage in the inky blackness like spelunking without a light. I pulled the hammer back to full cock, each click of the bolt sounding loud as a blacksmith working a horseshoe...then it was silent as a tomb except for the crickets...pointing Old Faithful skyward, I muttered under my breath;  "Richard, Doc, DD and Jim...for you, boys". Then; CRACK! You might be surprised at how loud a single cap can be in the dead quiet of the evening.
Walking back inside, I set Old Faithful down after extracting the cap, and the smell of spent priming compound came wafting up unmistakably. Hoisting the glass again I solemnly offered a toast, this time saying aloud, "Boys", and down the hatch we go.
You are missed, and it's been an honor to ride with you...

Good call, Hawg.  So, I used a Griswold too.  Three pops in salute and commemoration.
