Unusual pistol

I have had this pistol for a while too. It was wire-brushed before I got it so any markings are gone.

Any ideas as to it's origin?

Yeah, peculiar, but nice! The lock looks different from what would be expected from an 1830-to-1840 caplock pistol. Has it been converted from flintlock?
Would you mind explain how that lock fuunctions?

JMHO but it appears as if a snail/frizzen cover has been added to convert a flintlock to percussion?

It's a miquelet lock. Probably Spanish in origin and probably restocked as well. I don't think I've ever seen a miquelet/percussion conversion before.

I sure don't know about a percussion conversion. There is seemingly no provision that a frizzen was ever on the pistol that I can see. I thought maybe that assembly about the hammer might be a safety, but it doesn't appear to move.

Maybe it was cobbled together out of parts but there's no doubt the lock is a miquelet. Or rather started out as one.

Yes, agreed. And just maybe the lock was re-shaped, thus getting rid of a frizzen screw hole. Just thinking out loud here.

I pulled the lock off to see the workings. It is a small lock and surprisingly complex. The sear works laterally (horizontally) through the lock plate.

Very unusual. I never saw anything like that. How is the feel of the trigger?

Len, the trigger is quite light, with NO creep. Very crisp.

One last picture showing the lock at full cock. There is no half cock position.
