I'm thinkin' this was/is a smooth rifle.. There is definitely enough "meat" in the barrel that it could be bored and relined. It would make a great chunk gun.

Heck, I was there when they made a lot of the stuff!
Dave, I have no idea, but am doing a WAG that it is American made. I have looked all over the gun with a magnifying glass; there is the number 141 and very lightly struck (and in tiny letters) there is an undecipherable name on the barrel.
