So, while I had bought a new Lee Production pot, digital lead thermometer and Lyman dies and handles so I can cast my own 535gr .458 Postell boolits, I decided that should be more of a backup than standard fare. Midway had Montana Precision Swaging 535gr .458 Postells pre-lubed with SPG lube, sized, and ready to go, so I grabbed 50 of them and a Satern black powder aluminum/brass funnel while I was at it, and used my Midway 'birthday discount' last month! Note that they covered the boolits with a Saran-type wrap to help keep the lube soft and pliable and they are very well packaged in styrofoam packing. I was fairly impressed!
I should be ready to start cranking out .45-70 BP rounds for my Sharps just as soon as I can clear a path to my reloading bench!
I figured that at 535 grains, I should get no more than 13 boolits from a pound of lead...and all my lead is pure, so I'd need to get several pounds of Lyman #2 from Rotometals or similar, not to mention the time it takes to cast and clean up after myself. This seemed like such an easier and faster solution, so I went for it.
