While  i had the paint brush in operation, I painted the other 2 sets of trunnion retainers, or whatever they are called.

This has been stored in an unheated building for all these years. I do believe the trunnion retainers are 2 of the ones I just painted.

Definitely bigger! <={  I 'm just guessing, but I think the tube weighs 20 pounds...+. When I bring it in to work on it, I'll weigh and measure it.

The bottom piece is called the trunnion plate and the top piece is the trunnion cap.

Hawg, thanks for clarifying that. I was kinda thinking it was a trunnion cap, but hadn't looked the nomenclature up.

LOL! The biggest home made mortar I have seen was built by a machine shop instructor who belonged to our black powder shooting club. It shot a bowling ball aaaaalmost out of sight. He had an eye bolt tapped into the ball with a long brightly colored ribbon tied to it. When I asked him if that was so it was easier to track the ball in flight, he replied " no, it's so I can find the ball when it buries itself in the ground". *6'
