Attaching Pictures
« on: January 31, 2021, 01:23:26 PM »
Hey everyone.

Today I made some adjustments to our settings regarding attachment of photos.

When you attach a photo to your posts, it will now show full size instead of as a thumbnail. No more need to click on a tiny little picture!

You will notice that it is also retroactive. Meaning all pictures that have been attached to posts, now show full size!!!

Hope this helps you guys.

Here's an example for you.

Ok so how does it work?

When you're typing out your post, at the bottom it says "Attachments and other option". Just click on that and then click the box to attach your picture file directly from your computer. When you click the "Post" button, your picture will show up like my example above. It took longer to type this then it takes to do it.

For guys that don't like using a hosting service like PB or Flickr, now you can put a full size picture in your post. And it won't disappear like the hosted pictures do.

Only thing is most of my pics are on Imgur. I have next to nothing bp related on my pc.

That's totally fine Hawg. You scan still post them using Imgur. This way just gives the guys without photo hosting, an option.

Hi Dave, that's great news! However, I notice that old photos attached before your change don't now show zoomed in photo size if clicked on. The attached photo is a test if zooming in still works with new attached photos. Nope, can't do zooming in any more.

But, I discovered that if one right clicks on the photo, then clicks "View Image" one can zoom, zoom, zoom.

Regards,
Richard

You can also zoom with the scroll wheel of the mouse --- IF you keep the CTRL tab down

Thanks for finding that Richard. I didn't know.

I'll dig a little and see if I can rectify that. If not, is it a deal breaker? Would you rather it stayed the way it was?

Just let me know. I aim to please!

Yes, works that way using my PC but can't with the iPad. No worries though as the pictures show full size. What I don't understand is why it took a (knowledgeable) MODERATOR to rectify this  when the admistrator should have done it long ago.

Well I'm not really very knowledgeable Em. In fact, computer stuff confuses me to death. But ever since I was promoted to an Administrator, I poke around in the guts of the board, to familiarize myself with the inner workings. I stumbled across some settings and tried some experiments. I got lucky and it worked.

Hi Dave, the way you have it set up is great!! Perfect!!! Now nobody needs to be tied to a photo hosting site. Your photo posting method is free. Those sites come and go and some charge a fee. Then the photos disappear when they change their agreements with users. Your photo method of posting will remain as long as people continue contribute to keeping this message board going. That protects the information archive.

You are the man!!!!

Regards,
Richard

Ah shucks. Thanks Richard!

That was my goal. To make it easier for folks that don't want to use a hosting site. The complaint has always been just as you said. That the hosting sites change their rules, and then the pictures disappear from the posts. I hate that. And the guys that post pictures as attachments never liked the little thumbnails that have to be clicked on to see the picture full size. This remedies both problems.

I can't wait to see all the new pictures that will be posted now!
