Soy wax update
« on: February 02, 2021, 03:11:55 PM »
I took my navy and went shooting today. 65 degrees when I left home 75 when I got back. I bought some soy wax flakes to try as a lube. I had read about a wax pill that people had made that they put over the powder and underneath the ball. The soy works good except the size of the flakes is inconsistent. Very inconsistent! I think the barrel was cleaner with the wax over the powder than a wad over the powder. I will try to post some pictures later.

Did you melt the wax and make lube pills? Or just put wax flakes over the powder.

That would be great if this pans out. A single component lube that's cheap and easy to use. Instead of melting several products together or shelling out good money for SPG.

I'm watching this with interest.

How was the function of the gun? Did the wax help the cylinder stay relatively free to turn?

The action seems smoother and the cylinder turns easier with the wax over the powder. The size of the flakes is the big problem. If I had a 44 then there would be less of a problem. Trying to find flakes to fit in the 36 is challenging. The lubricant properties of the soy seems to be good.
