Fantastic work Rick! This is very helpful to a lot of people.

I have the kit for making the caps and the materials for making the priming compound. But that stuff will eventually run out and it takes forever to get anything from that company. I'll be stocking up on roll caps now, so I can make caps if the need arrises.

I do have a question for you. How do you secure the roll caps in the cup? Do you put any kind of glue or anything on top of the cap?

Dave, so far with my limited experience I’ve used the friction of the paper disk but I’m sure it will take some sort of glue . Maybe a drop of super glue or hair spray.  Getting the caps in square and centered is hard enough.  I need an exact diameter wooden dowel.  You want the charge spot toward the nipple. When the paper side is forward it will clog the touch hole preventing ignition.  I’m planning it try a bit of ground  ffff powder between two caps.
And to all of you that affirmed my efforts thanks a lot.

The thing about the older red rig caps is that the priming charge remains strong even after 10 or more years. It is corrosive.  I think it’s the same as found in Russian 7.62x54r ammo. I have a lot of it made no tellin when that shoots like it was just made. As to the role caps it’s any body’s guess. I’ll keep working on it.

Thanks Rick. That sounds like it will work. I was also thinking of thinning some Duco cement with acetone, and using a drop of it in the cup on top of the caps. Duco is very flammable so it shouldn't impede ignition.
