Any bowhunters out there?
« on: January 15, 2014, 08:12:42 PM »
Yeah, yeah.....I know. This is a Colt forum. But this is the hunting thread, so shut up, OK? )lI
Anyone else out there bowhunt?
I shoot a Reflex Bighorn single cam (well, I did until the bowstring broke this year). Still have my old PSE roundwheel bow too. And it still shoots!

Nope, never hunted a bow. What do you do with them after you get them? Give them to the wife or girlfriend? They seem to look nice in their hair. )l_

Yeah, you could do that. Or, if you don't have a wife or GF you could always stick one on the front of a boat. Or give one to an aspiring actor. So many choices! 8)

Me, I like to fling sharp pointy sticks at deer with them.

I am a dedicated Bowhunter.  I don't hunt with guns except for shooting coyotes on the ranch. (not really hunting)  I have shot many coyotes with my bow by calling them in to within 20 or 30 yards.  Way more fun than a rifle at 300 yards.  I hunt deer, elk and bear with my bow but the last few years have not had as much time as I would like.   I am strictly a traditional bow guy.  Right now I shoot a custom longbow made by Herb Meland in Wyoming.  I also have a custom made recurve bow made by Keith Chastain in Colorado.  I make all of my own (and some other peoples) arrows from cedar or ramin wood.  All with natural feather fletching and custom crests.
I'll get some pics put up if I can tomorrow.

Would love to see them, Mike. If I had the cash, I'd run right out and grab a takedown recurve right now. I used to shoot a recurve many moons ago instinctively and did quite well with it.

Sorry Capt. I couldn't' resist the temptation of the dumb come back. I actually used to shoot a recurve bow when I was in collage. And would love to have one again, but I never hunted with a bow. And now with the rotator cuffs on both shoulders messed up, looks like a bow is out of the equation for me. But I really do enjoy hearing about how you guys use them.

I'll be out there first of September,  along with my oldest son.   We'll be out near Westcliff Colorado.

Gonna see if I can get a leftover Bear tag too.   Just in case the opportunity presents itself.    Deer is draw only,  Elk and bear can be over the counter in the units we will be in.  Antelope is just a maybe scenario.  Depends on over the counter availability and whether there is any good deer or elk opportunities.

For me, it's pretty much whitetail or nuthin'.
My freezer's been plumb empty for a while now. Be nice to have some backstraps fried in butter..

Just returned from a 3 day  archery mule deer hunt in South Central Colorado near a little town named Westcliff.  Great weather,  perfect actually.   3 days of walking and sitting in beautiful mountain scenery.   Good thing no deer showed up to spoil the view.

Agreed. Sometimes the game can be an annoyance factor to spoil the scenery.... :)
