1873 Clone
« on: January 17, 2014, 07:04:29 AM »
I have a Liberty SAA clone in 45 LC one problem I bought it and stuck it in the safe and forgot it, when I finally got around to shooting it maybe five or better years later I know I know  ^j) I found out that after six rounds or so it would lock up. I checked the cylinder to forcing cone clearance and could just barely get a .002 feeler gage in there, using a sheet of glass and some 320 wet & dry sand paper and a figure 8 motion I opened that to .005. Plus a member told me to double check all the screws tight, found two loose and so far it seems okay.
I shoot light cowboy loads in it using Trail Boss. I think its really a Pietta knock off.

Not anything wrong with Pietta clones.

I don't think Pietta was making 1873 clones five years ago.

Perhaps it was longer because it says Pietta on the barrel.

OK I guess they were then. I thought they just started making them a couple of years ago.

This is imported by Liberty has their stamps also, I think it has some of the quality problems some of the older Pietta C&B revolvers had.

Tom, most of the Liberty guns I've seen are pretty decent.
I believe Pietta was selling barrels to various manufacturers back in the day. I know some of the other gunmakers were.

Do you think say. ASM would put a Pietta barrel on one of their frames and leave the Pietta name on the barrel?

Doubt it. But Liberty was one of the smaller arms importers and may or may not have. The barrel might be a replacement, as well.

Tomorrow, right now I'm enjoying 100 proof Laird Apple Brandy and chasing it with Dos Equis.

You bet, I'm a brandy lover with Christian Brothers high on my list, but when I can find it Lairds is my favorite.

I'm stuck here wit' nuttin' but Gallo Burgundy and Jameson's (OK, 'stuck' isn't such a descriptive term, I guess. Lot's of things I'd rather not be stuck with besides Jameson's....)
