WOW!!!!  Seeing those really takes me back. I spent 2007 living in
Guatemala with friends. In the small mountain town we lived in(pop. 800 spread over a 100sq mile area) there resided a woman who baked to support herself. She made little baguette like breads that looked just like those. I'd come by every Wednesday and buy 2 dozen of the for myself and my traveling companion, for the week. It was a pleasant break from tortillas and plantains.

Woodsrunner  -  Were you able to spot any jaguars while you were in the Guatemala highlands?

Woodsrunner. Sounds like a great time was had. I do love baguettes and plantains as well especially fried (tostones) I do not eat a steady diet of them mind you. I guess if you have any food too much it is nice to have a change. Have a very good friend from Guatemala who keeps me in stock.

G Dog - No, Jaguars. We were primarily in the southwestern  portion of the country. A little town called San Carlos Alzacate. I did get a chance to travel to the eastern portion of the country, more jungle, saw some pyramids, temples and ruins(Aztec I think, but I'll have to check my notes from the trip). Saw lots of Monkeys, Birds and Alligators.

Zulch - Plantains, refried beans w/cream, an egg and some homemade corn tortillas. Breakfast of champions!!! Wash it down with some black coffee and head out to the fields.

I'm envious Woodsrunner...that sounds like a nice adventure? Were you there long? I've been to Panama once back at the turn of th century. The howler monkeys were crazy. LOL

What do you do with small baguettes? Make silver dollar French Toast with Amish butter and bourbon barrel aged maple syrup.

Zulch - 6.5 months. It's super cheap if you go native. IIRC  the exchange rate at the time was 8:1 in favor of the USD.

Electric Miner - Those lil french toast look delicious!

Woodsrunner, living in Guatemala must have been a great experience for you.  I visited there a couple of times.  Saw some of the Pre-Columbian sites.  They were Olmec and Maya.  Aztecs were mostly "up" North from there.

Saw a jaguar on the Yucatan once.  I was on a bluff with good binoculars and he was
across a small river lazin along the bank like he owned the place.  He did own the place.  Next to tigers they are the largest cat.

Mexico and Central America is a time machine.
